This is a true story written by Mya Vanwagonen who finds an old copy of a book called Betty Cornell's Teen-Aged Popularity Guide originally published in the 1950's. Mya, a self proclaimed geek, decides to try the advice in the book right down to buying a girdle and wearing skirts and pearls to school everyday. Through it all Mya discovers what popularity really means. Many times when reading the book, I was struck by the contrast between the type of life Cornell describes in the 1950's with Mya's life living in Brownsville Texas today. Try this book if you want a true story of a girl who finds her real self by getting out of her comfort zone. This book can be found in the non-fiction section under 921 VAN
