During World War II, American citizens of Japanese descent were forced to live in internment camps because they were seen as a threat to the United States despite being innocent citizens. Yuki and his friend Shig were teens forced to leave their homes and transported to an internment camp. They both decide to enlist in the US Army to fight in World War II but they were only allowed to serve with other Japanese American soldiers in the 442nd Regimental Combat team. By the end of the war, the 442nd ended up receiving more Purple Hearts than any other regiment of its size.
